Edward John Iddings was born in 1879 in Peru, Indiana, the eldest of the four children of J.B. and Mary Iddings. He was raised on his father's 350 acre farm. After spending a year and a half at Butler College in Indianapolis, he moved to Colorado where he worked on a dairy farm near Denver before entering Colorado Agricultural College from which he received his B.S. degree in 1907 and his masters degree in 1922.
